I'm not intentionally neglecting this blog. I know I've only published
one blog post so far this month, but life recently threw me a curveball and I've been dealing with the consequences of being caught without my catcher's glove at the ready. If you
follow me on Twitter, then you've heard the news of my layoff last week. If you don't follow me on Twitter (and you should), then you now know why
Taste As You Go has been so silent lately.
My family and friends have been tremendously supportive and I'm already following up on some leads. (Hey,
Food Network, are you reading this?? I need a job!) Thankfully, I had a seat at
Foodbuzz's Community Table (presented by
Visa Signature) hosted at
Fishtail by David Burke. This was the
second Foodbuzz event I attended that was held at a David Burke restaurant, so I was very excited about the meal.
First Course (choice of)
Dry Roasted Angry Mussels with Chili Oil, Basil and Lemon
Warm Octopus with Hearts of Celery, Avocado and Lemon Garlic Aioli
Pretzel Crusted Crabcake with Confit Orange and Poppyseed Honey

Warm Octopus with Hearts of Celery, Avocado, and Lemon Garlic Aioli - Fishtail by David Burke - New York, NY |
Since I'd already tried the Pretzel Crusted Crabcake at David Burke Townhouse, I boldly ordered the Warm Octopus. (Confession: I ordered it because it came with avocado. And, well, I love avocado.) The octopus was tender and the exterior was pleasantly crispy. Eaten alone, I thought the octopus was slight on the salty side. However, when eaten with the hearts of celery and avocado, the flavors were balanced and the octopus was actually quite tasty.
Second Course (choice of)
Roasted Branzino with Asian Mustard Vinaigrette
Pan Roasted Diver Scallops with Sweet Corn and Lobster Risotto and Citrus Butter
Pan Roasted Wild Salmon with Braised Bok Choy and Two Curries
|
Pan-Roasted Diver Scallops with Sweet Corn and Lobster Risotto and Citrus Butter - Fishtail by David Burke - New York, NY |
I was tempted to order the Roasted Branzino since I had enjoyed it
the last time I ordered it but I wasn't sure I could handle the Asian Mustard Vinaigrette since I'm not a fan of mustard. I could have ordered it with the vinaigrette on the side or
sans vinaigrette, but what would have been the point? After reading the next choice after the Branzino, I knew I had found my main course -- I love
scallops; I love
corn; and
I love risotto! And
citrus butter? Of
course I ordered the Diver Scallops! The dish was delicious. Absolutely delicious. I ate it so quickly that I had plenty of time to lament the small portion of risotto while everyone else finished their food. I also used that time to prepare myself for the dessert course.
Third Course
Peaches & Cream with White Chocolate Pudding, Georgia Peaches and Strawberry Sugar Wafers
Chocolate Caramel Cake with Chocolate Mousse, "Cracker Jacks" and Peanut Butter Ice Cream
"Can o' Cake" - Molten Chocolate Cake with All the Fixin's (Fresh Whipped Cream and a Bowl of Cake Batter-Covered Beaters)
David Burke's Cheesecake Lollipops with Raspberries and Bubblegum Whipped Cream

At a Community Table, it's more fun to share, so each table was served enough portions of the four desserts to pass around. I only had a nibble of the Peaches & Cream, shared with me by Stephane of
Zen Can Cook. I, in turn, shared the Chocolate Caramel Cake, which was gloriously set in front of me, with him. I would have been perfectly happy with
just the Chocolate Caramel Cake because it was so good (and because the cake was garnished with caramel popcorn!) but I also had a bite of the "Can o' Cake," shared with my by
Ryan (the Girl) from
Foodbuzz. As amazing as the Molten Chocolate Cake, which was topped with "Japanese Rice Krispies," tasted, I
had to go after one of the beaters in the bowl. How fun! (Stephane did take pictures of me as I was licking the batter off the beaters, but I refuse to post them.)
Our room on the second floor of the restaurant was full of very contented people by the time our meal was over. Thank you,
Foodbuzz, for another wonderful foodie experience!
