Blue Grillhouse - Bethlehem, PA
Blue Grillhouse features prime steaks and chops, as well as fresh seafood, all prepared to your liking.
It was a sunny afternoon, so we requested a table on their heated outdoor patio. I can remember thinking how much I had missed the sun after enduring one of the roughest winters the Lehigh Valley's seen in a long time. Plus, I always love how sitting outside can lend itself well to people-watching.
To celebrate my husband's triumphant appearance as a guest conductor at that concert, we treated ourselves to a round of drinks -- G&T for him and Strawberry Basil Lemonade ($9) for me.
Even though I always equate this particular combination of ingredients with the summer months, something about it just sounded so good, and I couldn't ignore the temptation. The mixture of strawberry vodka and fresh lemon, basil, and strawberries was nice and smooth and totally hit the spot.
Rather than order an entree, I opted for appetizer and a salad, starting with the Hawaiian Big Eye Tuna Tartare ($17) with avocado and a ginger-citrus vinaigrette. The portion size was very generous, and I loved the balance between the tuna and avocado. The whole dish was silky and creamy with a refreshing brightness from the vinaigrette, and I found myself lingering over every bite. Certainly one of the better tuna tartares I've eaten in the Lehigh Valley.
(In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I'm already counting down the days until I can have it again. If there's anything I miss eating while pregnant, it's raw fish. Once Baby Rittler arrives, just see how long it takes me to make a meal out of tuna tartare with a side of sushi!)
For my salad, I went with the simply composed Market Green Salad ($7) with spring greens, English cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, and a drizzle of raspberry vinaigrette. Making an unexpected appearance on the plate? The sliced red onions.
Normally, I eat around red onions (they're too much for me when they're raw), but I actually didn't mind them here because of the sharpness they added to an otherwise run-of-the-mill salad. The greens were dressed a little too heavily for my personal tastes, and I secretly wished I had remembered to request the dressing on the side.
Overall, my husband and I had a very pleasant dinner, and we applauded ourselves for eating somewhere other than our usual haunts. Their outdoor patio is only open during limited seasonal hours now, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't wind up back there at least one more time before the baby is born. Though, now that my appetite is seemingly insatiable these days, you can count on me ordering more than just an appetizer and a salad. ;-)
