Growing up, I must have driven past the DeFrancesco Farm Stand Market hundreds of times. But it wasn't until this summer that I actually pulled my car into the little parking lot and decided to look around. I was on the first leg of my return trip to New York after spending a long weekend with my grandparents in Rhode Island and had some time to kill before dropping my car off at my father's house and heading to the train station in New Haven.
Seeing as I had next-to-nothing in terms of food in my kitchen back home and absolutely no fresh produce, I decided to see what the DeFrancesco Farm Stand had to offer. The selection was plentiful and the produce was an absolute dream. The colors were so vibrant and everything smelled so fragrant that I was tempted to start tasting the fruits and vegetables right on the spot! Luckily, I had my wits about me and refrained from sampling the food before purchasing it. Instead, I happily chose potatoes, zucchini, summer squash, and nectarines.
Although I didn't purchase any that day, the DeFrancesco Farm Stand also sells bread and specialty items, such as honey and jams and jellies, annuals, perennials, potted herbs, and cut flowers. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for a few minutes. Better yet, make the DeFrancesco Farm Stand your first stop for produce during their times of operation (see below).
The food you'll be able to pick up there will be fresher and of better quality than anything you may find in the local chain supermarket!
