2024 Thanksgiving Menu and Meal Prep Timeline

* image These past few months have been busy for our family, especially since our oldest joined a local swim team. Between juggling our work schedules and balancing school with practices... we're all pretty wiped out. Although it's a lot of work, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. Preparing the holiday meal for our family fills my heart with joy, and I can't wait to get started. To make things easier for me, I don't deviate much from  our first Thanksgiving  as a family. The dishes I make are familiar ones, and the recipes for them live at my fingertips. Keeping the same menu year after year means I don't have to spend time researching recipes or planning a new one. Here are my tried-and-true Thanksgiving recipes, as well as my prep timeline for the big day!

Menu Plan: December 1 - December 7

With the recent passing of my grandfather, it's been a sad time for my family these last few days as we've all had to come to terms with his death in our own ways. At his funeral on Friday, I finally allowed myself to shed real tears of sadness. I know I'm still holding back, but it was a start.

To prevent myself from plunging into despair, I think it's time to get back into a relatively normal routine and to look ahead to the Christmas holiday. Stephen and I have decided to start decorating our house to get into the spirit of the season, and that means going out (hopefully, today) to select our Christmas tree.

In support of my get-back-to-normal pledge, here's our Menu Plan for the week:

Menu Plan: December 1 - December 7, 2013

Sunday: Herb-Roasted Turkey Breast with Mashed Potatoes and Glazed Carrots

Aside from some green bean casserole, Stephen and I didn't get to enjoy any leftovers from our Thanksgiving dinner this year. We're planning to have a pared down version for dinner tonight to make up for the lack of leftovers.

The Lemonade Cookbook by Alan Jackson and JoAnn Cianciulli

Monday: Creamed Cauliflower Soup (from The Lemonade Cookbook) with Toasted Baguette Slices

I received a review copy of The Lemonade Cookbook by Alan Jackson and JoAnn Cianciulli a week or so ago and couldn't wait to start trying the recipes within it. Since I've been reserving Mondays for vegetarian meals, I thought this Creamed Cauliflower Soup might be a fun place to start, especially since the dish looks so simple to prepare.

Tuesday: Creamy Parmesan Pasta with Peas and Bacon

I'm fairly certain that I have photos of this dish on my hard drive. The photos still need to be edited before I can share the recipe, given to me by my stepmother, with you all. From what I remember, the photos weren't that great, so I'm going to try and take better ones this time around.

Wednesday: Stephen's Choice

The best night of the week, if you ask me. ;-)

Thursday: Roasted Mushroom Risotto

Typically, when I make risotto, I turn to one of my favorite recipes (Creamy Parmesan Risotto with Roasted Shrimp and Peas). This time, though, I'm going waaaaay back in the recipe archives to one of the very first recipes I ever posted on Taste As You Go.

Friday: Pizza with Meatballs and Caramelized Onions

I'm going to make it easier on myself this week by using meatballs I made a few weeks ago and stored in the freezer. The pizza will use up the rest of the stash in the freezer, so I guess I'm going to have to make another batch or two.

Saturday: Holiday Party at Friends' House

We'll be ending the week with our first holiday party of the season, so no cooking for me. Hooray!

What's on your Menu Plan this week?
