2024 Thanksgiving Menu and Meal Prep Timeline

* image These past few months have been busy for our family, especially since our oldest joined a local swim team. Between juggling our work schedules and balancing school with practices... we're all pretty wiped out. Although it's a lot of work, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. Preparing the holiday meal for our family fills my heart with joy, and I can't wait to get started. To make things easier for me, I don't deviate much from  our first Thanksgiving  as a family. The dishes I make are familiar ones, and the recipes for them live at my fingertips. Keeping the same menu year after year means I don't have to spend time researching recipes or planning a new one. Here are my tried-and-true Thanksgiving recipes, as well as my prep timeline for the big day!

Menu Plan: April 30 - May 6 {and Living in the Moment}

Sometimes, when I look at our toddler, I don't even recognize her. Instead of seeing our two-year-old, I see a child who speaks and acts as if she's three or four. I find myself doing more double-takes to make sure she didn't discover a way to speed up the passage of time.

Take yesterday, for example. We went out to lunch and, since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to sit outside. I watched her as she sat observing the world, pointing out the things around her. She was using more complete sentences and using words I didn't realize she knew. I found myself asking "When did that happen?"

I immediately said a silent thank-you to her teachers at school. As happy as I was to appreciate how much she's learned in the past nine months, I couldn't help but feel a little sad. She's not my baby anymore. Yes, there are moments when she still wants to cuddle. She'll still run to me when she's upset or scared. But she's starting to show her independence, proving to us that she can do certain things all on her own.

I guess there's some truth to the things I've heard about the first few years of your child's life. They go by quickly. And it's hard to document all the firsts because those years move so fast. (And because you're too damn exhausted to pull out a book every time you recognize the firsts.)

I'm learning, though, that there are things I can do to make time slow down. I can strive to live in the moment more, to be as present as possible so I can soak in the small stuff. Spend time creating the little memories... Because, one day, I just know that those are the ones I'm going to cherish the most.
