2024 Thanksgiving Menu and Meal Prep Timeline

* image These past few months have been busy for our family, especially since our oldest joined a local swim team. Between juggling our work schedules and balancing school with practices... we're all pretty wiped out. Although it's a lot of work, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. Preparing the holiday meal for our family fills my heart with joy, and I can't wait to get started. To make things easier for me, I don't deviate much from  our first Thanksgiving  as a family. The dishes I make are familiar ones, and the recipes for them live at my fingertips. Keeping the same menu year after year means I don't have to spend time researching recipes or planning a new one. Here are my tried-and-true Thanksgiving recipes, as well as my prep timeline for the big day!

Menu Plan: April 23 - April 29 {and Setting Boundaries}

By nature, I'm someone who offers to help whenever (and wherever) I can. I'm also someone who doesn't pause to consider the consequences of offering my time and energy. If I know I'm helping someone, then that's usually enough for me.

But lately, I've realized how much my willingness to jump in has taken its toll. I've been trying to use my discretion more often. Especially since I know that, come August, I won't have too much extra to give.

Instead, I've been carving out time for myself and making more of an effort to take care of myself. I'm setting boundaries that are more distinct and allowing myself to unplug so I can focus on me and my needs. Every now and then, though, I do feel guilty about letting a task go undone or letting a message go unanswered... but I suppose, in time, I won't think twice about it anymore.

It's one thing to make myself available to those who need me, but it's another to stretch myself too thin. I can already see how these changes in my behavior have affected my mood. Since I'm able to focus more on what's important to me, prioritizing my to-do list is easier than it's been in a long time.

Take, for example, this week's menu plan. I devoted time to planning our meals, creating my grocery list, and going grocery shopping. More importantly, I set aside time to write this blog post.  Not once did I feel stressed or rushed or worried about having time to do everything else on my list.

This, my friends, is definitely a step in the right direction.
