2024 Thanksgiving Menu and Meal Prep Timeline

* image These past few months have been busy for our family, especially since our oldest joined a local swim team. Between juggling our work schedules and balancing school with practices... we're all pretty wiped out. Although it's a lot of work, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. Preparing the holiday meal for our family fills my heart with joy, and I can't wait to get started. To make things easier for me, I don't deviate much from  our first Thanksgiving  as a family. The dishes I make are familiar ones, and the recipes for them live at my fingertips. Keeping the same menu year after year means I don't have to spend time researching recipes or planning a new one. Here are my tried-and-true Thanksgiving recipes, as well as my prep timeline for the big day!

What's for Dinner: October 24 - October 30

Toddler Monkey Costume for Halloween | Taste As You Go

It's the week before Halloween 🎃, and I have to say... I'm pretty impressed with myself. The kids had their costumes weeks ago, and we only have our contribution to our daughter's class party to pick up before Friday.

Oh, and some Halloween candy 🍫, of course... Other than that, we are set for next Sunday.

Even more impressive than that? I've already started preparations for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Like many of you, I've seen inventory issues in the stores due to the global supply chain shortages.

Because I want to avoid scrambling in November... I've added a few ingredients for our Thanksgiving dinner to our grocery order each week. And, thanks to the advice of a good friend who works for Crayola... I started Christmas shopping in September to allow plenty of time for any shipping delays or necessary changes to Santa's list.

(Thanks, Rick!)

I'm not normally this on top of the holiday season... So, again I say... I'm pretty impressed with myself.

Of course, all this planning ahead for the holidays didn't keep me on track with blogging. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I didn't have time to share this week's menu plan before I needed to get in the kitchen tonight... so, before I jump back into the laundry pile, here it is!

PS. The above photo is of our son in his Halloween costume from last year. Such a cute little monkey 🐵!

A Week of Dinners: October 24 - October 30

  • Sunday: Spicy Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions over Steamed White Rice

  • MondayBaked Ginger Salmon with Jasmine Rice and Steamed Edamame

I had wanted to serve the salmon with this eggplant, but I couldn't get any kind of eggplant this week.

  • TuesdayGarlic Butter Steak Bites over Egg Noodles with Steamed Broccoli

The steaks that arrived in our grocery ordered were smaller than I hoped, so I might have to serve something else with this to keep up with our ravenous kids.

  • Wednesday: Leftover Night

At this rate, I doubt we'll have any leftovers in the refrigerator by Wednesday. Might have to pick up something from the prepared foods section of the grocery store on my way home from work!

  • ThursdayCacio e Pepe

  • FridaySun-Dried Tomato and Arugula Pizza

I can't remember whether the kids like this one. Here's hoping! 🤞🏽

  • Saturday: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, and Peas
