Space in 2022
As was the case with 2021, I was ready to kick off the new year before the clock struck midnight. Because things had to be better in 2022... right?
Early January showed signs of promise. My motivation to hit the ground running was high. In my world, things felt like they were moving in the right direction.
Because I wanted to dedicate more time to blogging, I didn't waste time creating my content for the month. I found myself hitting my deadlines and feeling positive about the content I was sharing. Along with our weekly menu plans, I shared my tips for setting yearly goals and a recap of the goals I set in 2021.
This was all part of the set-up for the post about my chosen focus word and theme for 2022. But then COVID hit our house, and I was down for the count. My symptoms lingered for weeks before I recovered completely... but I haven't been able to rebuild my blogging momentum. The multiple drafts I started no longer seemed relevant and I couldn't write my way out of it.
And, let me tell you... It's been super frustrating. Since I'm determined to see this through, I'm calling on all my Type A tendencies to get this post out there. Even if it's a few months late.
Using last year's progress as inspiration, I'm challenging myself to make Space in 2022. If you want to learn more about my plan to make Space in 2022, keep reading!
I spent 2021 trying to spend more time taking care of myself. My goals focused on ways I could nourish myself. How could I:
- live a healthier lifestyle
- feed my love of learning
- make myself happier
Despite the work I put into achieving those goals, I experienced all-time high levels of anxiety. There were long stretches when I couldn't sleep... and there were periods when I felt overwhelmed to the point of incapacitation.
I want things to be different this year... No. I need them to be different this year.
In many ways, my intentions to make Space in 2022 take root in the goals I set in 2021. As I wrote down my goals for this year, I focused on ways to:
- Protect Mental Space
- Define Online Space
- Create Meaningful Space
Are you ready? Without further ado... Here are my goals for 2022!
Protect Mental Space...
- find mental health activity
- read 10 books
- spend more time outdoors
- take care of my skin
- schedule Mom Breaks
- schedule Date Nights
As a mom, I spend a good majority of my time taking care of other people... and worrying about the well-being of others can be draining. Especially when it comes at the expense of my own well-being. So I need to do whatever it takes to make sure I'm protecting my mental space.
I want to identify an activity that I can engage in when I'm feeling overwhelmed... something I can do when everything else feels like too much... something in addition to reading.
To that end, I want to spend more time outdoors. This is the year I'm going to make time to disconnect from my responsibilities so I can connect with the natural world. Because I always feel better and much more settled after being outside.
As for my skin, I developed a solid skincare routine last year... but I let myself slack off whenever I felt too tired (or too anxious) to go through the steps. I need to be more disciplined so I can regain the glow that has disappeared over the past few months.
The Mom Breaks and the Date Nights are self-explanatory.
Define Online Space...
- continue backend blog updates
- create new blog content
- grow Instagram
- make more reels/video content
As you can imagine, some of the goals related to my online space are blog-related. The updates I need to make are never-ending. Last year, I spent a lot of time working on those backend updates, leaving little to no time to create new content.
But I can no longer sacrifice creating new content for the sake of updating the old. I have to do both. At the same time. Without losing my mind or my motivation.
Finally sharing this post is a step in the right direction, and I hope this is what gets me back on track.
But you know my blog isn't the only space I occupy online. I also have my social media channels to think about. I've been making solid progress in growing my Instagram community over the last year... and I want to make sure I keep that space fresh and engaging.
Even if it means pushing myself out of my comfort zone to create more reels. Because those darned things just won't go away! 😂
Create Meaningful Space...
- declutter the house
- organize spaces in the house
- continue making our house a home
It's hard to believe we've been in our home for three years already. But, depending on where you look, you might think we just moved in. 🤦🏽♀️
This year, I want to tap into my less-is-more mindset and purge the things we no longer need or use. Once I declutter, I want to organize certain spaces in our home so they work better for us.
And, of course, I want to continue making our home comfortable... a place of refuge. Because I want our family to have a home that breaths rather than constricts. A home with rejuvenating energy rather than a home that drains our energy.

Now... It may have taken me months to share my theme and goals for 2022 with you... But I want you to know that I started working toward these goals on January 1. So far, I'm pretty pleased with the progress I've made.
Let's see how the rest of the year goes!
